Centamin Egypt Limited has begun to export gold from the country’s first modern commercial gold mine in Sukari, located in Egypt’s south central Eastern Desert. The resource is being sent overseas to gold refinery Johnson Matthey in the UK following the achievement of optimal design throughput of four million tons a year in December 2009, Centamin reports.
An ASX-, AIM- and TMX-listed company, Centamin estimates its Sukari site has mineral reserves of around 142 million tons, at 1,4 g/t gold, for 6,4 million ounces. The current mineral resource stands at 191 million tons, it says, at 1.53 g/t gold for 9.39 million ounces measured and indicated, and 64-million tons at 1,7 g/t gold for 3,5 million ounces of inferred resource.
