A massive gas power plant explosion rocked the town of Middletown, CT, and its surrounding communities Sunday morning. The incident happened just before 11:30 a.m. while tests were being run on the 620MW Kleen Energy facility, which was set to go online this summer.

According to local media reports, at least two people were killed and more than 100 injured – some critically. At least 50 construction workers were said to have been on site at the time and some are believed to be trapped beneath the rubble of the power plant. Search and rescue teams quickly arrived to the scene and emergency officials expected the number of casualties to rise. All together, more than 100 emergency service units including fire, police and emergency management responded.
